National Church…?

As has been the case with many of you, God has totally been wrecking all of the preconceived thoughts I’ve had about what His Church is, and what He desires it to be. The things we have seen happen in the past 3 years of our lives, and the life of Intentional Gatherings have been incredible. From serving the poor to community discipleship houses, and training others across the nation to make disciples & plant new churches we can only assume God has something big in store…
Through Student CPx we, along with the help of several other organizations, have seen hundreds of students trained to make disciples and plant LAY-led faith communities in their context as new believers encounter Jesus. After the students are trained we pair them up with a “seasoned practitioner” to mentor & disciple them. We have elders and leaders spread out in different regions of the country to help shepherd and pastor these apostolic missionaries…

This past weekend in St. Louis we gathered together (with those who could make it) many of these disciple makers/church planters for a time of celebration of what God has done, and edifying one another before going back out into the harvest. As the national elder team and I were chatting we realized something really neat…we have a Nationwide Church of Churches on our hands! There are hubs where traveling teams can be sent out from, and return to for rejuvenation. Not to mention the many Baptisms and hundreds of powerful stories of God moving on campuses & in neighborhoods.
Realizing what God is doing has, once again, completely shifted how I view His Church. I can’t help but think about the early Church in the New Testament, and how it must have been spread out all over the region with thousands of believers, elders, traveling apostolic leaders, BRAND new believers, and many individual church communities spread out all over the place. I’m learning that God grows & builds His church in many ways when we LET HIM. When we get our of His way & remove Him from the box we put Him in He can really amaze us. There really are ways for “growth” outside of how many people gather at a weekly service! (Imagine that! =) It brought a smile to my face, and much peace to my soul to look and see what God has built in the past couple of years – we are humbled and blessed to be a part of it…

If you look closely at the picture you’ll notice FOUR generations present. By the grace of God we have Spiritual grandparents all the way down to small children and infants who are a part of our growing national spiritual family!

Student CPx: Austin Baptisms…

This is the Baptism video from Student CPx: Austin. Two students got Baptized by two other students in the creek on UT’s campus. It was pretty powerful. Both students share a testimony. It was really dark outside, and the camera was on slow shudder speed. So, it’s a bit blurry, but still worth the watch. Celebrate with us what God is doing through young people all over the country as they make disciples and start lay-led churches!

SCPx Story & The Great Commission…

I had the pleasure of kicking off Student CPx: Concentrate in Vegas with a bit of the history of how SCPx was birthed, and the desire to see students equipped to live out the Great Commission on their campuses & in their neighborhoods…

Adventures in Pittsburgh…

We just arrived back from a 4 day planning trip in Pittsburgh, PA. 9 adults and 13 kids piled into one house for the weekend as we brainstormed, dreamed, and made plans for Student CPx stuff in 2010…

Most of you know about the Student CPx training experiences we host along with several other partnering organizations. Five families make up the SCPx National Elder Team. We host the training experiences in various cities all over the world, with an upcoming SCPx in Costa Rica & our Student Church National Gathering in St. Louis in January. Intentional Gatherings is so blessed to a part of such an incredible team of like-minded brothers & sisters.

We had an incredible time of relationship building & planning for 2010. We have some exciting things in the works for this next year. We made plans for SCPx Training in several cities including Austin. We also developed a plan to visit 12 cities from Jan. 2010 – March 2010 for what we’re calling “iSCPx” (Intro to StudentCPx) where we will meet with students who have heard about the experience, & are interested in learning more about it. The weekend was incredibly productive & fruitful. Not to mention we got to spend some sweet time with some wonderful families who we don’t get to see very often…

We had a blast, and got a lot done. I can’t wait to reveal more details about the upcoming National Gathering, “iSCPx” 12 city plan, and the full length SCPx training experiences that will be hosted in 2010! Stay tuned…

Something Clicked…

Something clicked with the students at CPx this past weekend. A lot took place, in fact, there’s too much for me to even begin to blog about. To be honest, I had a LONG blog post written about something I feel sums the entire weekend up. I began the weekend with a teaching on The Great Commission. The things we hoped for the students to gain  were not only evident in the training, but in the events of the weekend  itself.

Again, I attempted to put words to the power of what happened this weekend, but due to a glitch in wordpress my draft was lost never to be found again. I was upset about it. Then I walked downstairs and watched some of the video footage from the weekend. Peace swept over me as I realized that my words could do NO justice to what took place. I am in the process of getting these videos ready for all to see. I believe they are worth the wait. I hope that you will stay tuned for one video in particular. We have most of the sessions recorded, but I plan on posting this particular video asap. It needs no words to accompany it, however I will probably add my two cents at the end…you know me. =)

I hope you will be anxiously waiting to view this video, and be inspired by what you see. I know with much confidence that I am not building anything up to be more than it is in reality. My life, and the lives of others have been forever changed by what we saw take place. Stay tuned…
