1040 Documentary Screening…

1040 is an explosive documentary that focuses on the rapid changes in Asia and the significant shift of spiritual landscape in the area known as the “10/40 Window”- the regions between 10 degrees and 40 degrees North Latitude on the eastern hemisphere. My friend Jaeson Ma went on a  journey through the Asian countries in the window, showing the dramatic changes happening on the ground…

Jaeson & his team will be here in Austin on Thursday evening to host a screening on UT’s campus. I hope you will all join us if you are in the Austin area as we focus not only on expanding the kingdom in Austin, but the Nations. Click Here to go to the Facebook Event page for Austin and find all the details you need to know…Check out the 1040 Movie website (link above) for more information & the full story behind the movie. If you are not in the Austin area, but would like to host a screening in your own city CLICK HERE to get in contact with the 1040 movie team. From Myles Hamby, UCLA Passion Church Student who attended Student CPx: Concentrate in Las Vegas in Jan. 09′:

“Greenhouse Conferences have been happening all around the world for the last 10 years and have been challenging Christians to ask the QUESTIONS: What is a church, anyway? How can we do church is a way that more effectively reaches the lost and fosters better community amongst family? It challenges people’s traditional paradigms about what church is.

The conference also equips believers with practical, biblical techniques for planting organic churches and reaching the lost. The key to these techniques is their reproducibility. These principles can be used in ANY cultural context in ANY place in the world.

My heart was to see a “Greenhouse Conference – Student Edition” at UCLA. Neil Cole’s teachings have changed my life and fundamentally changed the way I reach out to people. I’ve seen these principles be VERY effective in his life and in my life too. So I wanted to host a Greenhouse at UCLA to equip Christians at UCLA and other college campuses with these practical evangelism techniques and to get them thinking differently about the way we do church.”

If you live in the SoCal region you don’t want to miss this incredible opportunity.

Student Church National Gathering…

SCNG2101

Most of you know about the Student CPx Training Experiences that we, along with a couple other like-minded organizations, host in different parts of the world several times/year.

From the first Student CPx training we could sense God building some sort of “Spiritual Family” among students all over the country who are reaching unbelievers, and starting new faith communities in their context. We believe He is still doing so to this day.

The purpose of this gathering is to give people a chance to re-connect, share stories, & build family. In January 2010 the Student CPx National Leadership team will be hosting a Student Church Gathering. Here’s the details:

WHO SHOULD COME? Anyone who has been involved in your student church this semester at any level.  It will also benefit newcomers to your church.

WHY SHOULD YOU COME? To be refreshed in the Lord, reconnect with your
brothers and sisters and be encouraged to dream big.

WHEN? Jan 1-4, 2010

WHERE? St. Louis, MO

The application deadline is December 1, 2009. A $75 deposit is due to
complete your registration. The total cost for the conference is $175

Student CPx Baptisms…

As promised, here is the video from the Baptisms that took place at Student CPx in Vegas. They are powerful. Please feel free to share your thoughts below in the comments section.

Other videos from CPx will be posted throughout the next few weeks. Stay tuned for teachings from Neil Cole, Brian Orme, Pam Arlund, Erik Fish, and more…

Something Clicked…

Something clicked with the students at CPx this past weekend. A lot took place, in fact, there’s too much for me to even begin to blog about. To be honest, I had a LONG blog post written about something I feel sums the entire weekend up. I began the weekend with a teaching on The Great Commission. The things we hoped for the students to gain  were not only evident in the training, but in the events of the weekend  itself.

Again, I attempted to put words to the power of what happened this weekend, but due to a glitch in wordpress my draft was lost never to be found again. I was upset about it. Then I walked downstairs and watched some of the video footage from the weekend. Peace swept over me as I realized that my words could do NO justice to what took place. I am in the process of getting these videos ready for all to see. I believe they are worth the wait. I hope that you will stay tuned for one video in particular. We have most of the sessions recorded, but I plan on posting this particular video asap. It needs no words to accompany it, however I will probably add my two cents at the end…you know me. =)

I hope you will be anxiously waiting to view this video, and be inspired by what you see. I know with much confidence that I am not building anything up to be more than it is in reality. My life, and the lives of others have been forever changed by what we saw take place. Stay tuned…

Student CPx Concentrate: Las Vegas

vegaspromosmallerOn January 16th students from campuses all over the country will be arriving here in Vegas for a weekend of training, affirmation, edification, and empowerment. Many of these students attended our two week CPx training in Kansas over the summer, and will be reuniting with their fellow student church planters to share stories of how God has moved on their campuses/in their neighborhoods. They will pray for one another, and be better equipped to go back home to keep on rockin’. The training will be hosted on UNLV’s campus, and those attending will be housed in UNLV’s Tonapah Hall.

This weekend has been opened up to anyone who desires to take the Gospel to their campuses, neighborhoods, apartment complexes, etc. in a simple and reproducible way. The weekend will be full of hands on practical tools for allowing Gospel seeds to take root in dark places, causing a new community of believers to birth. Students, who are not already, will be paired up with older, more experienced mentors from all over the country as a part of our new nation-wide mentoring program. Student CPx will throw a party for UNLV’s International Students as a way to bless the city/campus, as well as help launch a new International Student Ministry called “All Nations Fellowship”.

State representatives from 24/7 prayer will also be joining us on UNLV’s campus for the weekend. There will be a 24 hour prayer room set up the entire time, as well as chances to hear about ways to be involved with nation-wide prayer & student church movement initiatives.

The bulk of this training will not be spent in lecture style meetings, but there will be a handful of speakers from around the country who will be there to share some great insight with us. There will be breakout sessions on Spiritual Fathers/mentoring, Living in Community, and much more! Students will be broken up into simple churches for the weekend where they will be better equipped to lead simple church gatherings, initiate conversations with the lost, lead evangelistic Bible Studies, and make disciples through natural/everyday life experiences.

Click Here to register for the weekend…

Cost is $125 for the entire weekend, which includes everything except transportation to Vegas. If you are a Vegas local, and do not need lodging you can register for the entire weekend for $50!

Passion Church – SoCal

If you step foot onto the UCLA campus it won’t be long before you will encounter a zealous student who loves Jesus, and is a part of a simple church within a network called “Passion Church”. Passion Church Network was started by Jaeson Ma, author of “The Blueprint”, under the mentorship of Neil Cole, author of “Organic Church”. There are many student led simple churches spread out on several campuses in Southern California that make up the Passion Church Network. Last weekend 45 students who are heavily involved with PC headed for the mountains in Yucaipa, California for a PC leadership retreat. Morgan and I, along with several others were asked to come speak to the students.

The weekend was amazing, and we met true world changers. We learned as much from them as they learned from us. Every one of them is passionately pursuing Jesus, and the spread of the Gospel through simple church planting. Morgan and I were, and are always extremely encouraged when we spend time with Jaeson, Erik, Neil, CCN guys, or anyone else who is passionate about the multiplication of missional communities.

We all came to a beautiful understanding this weekend in mountains of California. Erik felt a deep need to release the students from a performance mentality that many of us tend to slip into. We feel the need to seek the approval of man, or worse, seek the approval of God by our many works. As prideful man we have a hard time accepting the fact that the beauty of the Gospel is that Jesus did for us we could not do, please God.
By Sunday morning we all had a fresh dose of grace, and reminder of why we made the decision to allow Jesus to do for us what we could not do for ourselves. As I got up to share with the students the Lord gave me a fresh word for the students. There seemed to be some curiosity, and confusion about our part in the kingdom…since we are set free from “doing” for God, right? I can still see the look on the faces in front of me as I shared this simple statement with the students:

“We do not perform for God to earn His approval, we obey because we ALREADY have His approval.”

This simple statement set many of us in the room free. We were, not only released from a performance mentality, but moved to obedience upon the realization of the approval we have from God, because of Christ in us. It is as if we have had things out of order this entire time…

Student Church Planting Movements

I have been in Lawrence, Kansas since early Monday morning. I was asked by my friend Erik Fish to come here and speak, along with several others, to a group of about 35 college students about starting “missional communities” on their college campuses. This training that Erik, and the “Campus Church Network” crew (Jaeson Ma, Sam Lee, Benson Lee) has organized is called “Student CPx“.

It has been such a blessing this week to share with students that they can be part of a CPM even…especially while in college! These guys & girls are pumped, passionate, and excited. There was no deconstruction process to go through for why “this & that” is wrong, broken, or ineffective. Praise Christ! I did not have to spend any time trying to convince them to simply hear me out on the topic of “missional community” multiplication. They were hungry for the story of “Intentional Gatherings” in Ft. Worth, and what we are up to in Las Vegas. They wanted to hear practical ways we seek to foster intimate community among believers for the purpose of accountability, discipleship, service, and reproduction. They asked all of the right questions; many of which I simply could not answer, but encouraged them to begin “writing their own story”.

As I’ve spent time with different students on an individual basis throughout the week it gives me such hope, and excitement to think that they are embarking on a journey that could result in the rapid spread of the Gospel throughout America. These students are from different college campuses all over the country. Five different countries are represented, as well as almost 15 different states. All 35 students will return back to their campuses and start simple churches, or “missional communities” that reproduce…if they have not already done so. This excites me.

I sat around the table for dinner tonight with, who I truly believe are some of the sharpest minds in the organic/simple church reproduction “world”. It was a true pleasure, and blessing from God to share in kingdom centered conversation with these guys. Jaeson Ma, with all of his energy and excitement shared dreams and visions the Lord has given him recently. Erik Fish shared a beautiful opportunity the Lord has placed in his lap between two amazing organizations. Neil Cole, in his humble wisdom breathed discerment into the entire conversation after sharing with us a key element that must be present in a CPM here in the states. We dreamed and brainstormed about some potentially huge things in terms of kingdom growth and CPM’s. I have certainly learned more here in Kansas than I have taught, and pray this is the case everywhere I go.

“Jesus, we pray for a student volunteer movement to sweep across this country throughout college campuses in the form of “missional communities” being started and multiplied. Use us, release us, and set us free.”
